InBio.be has a long tradition in the development of specialty carbohydrate and biosurfactant producing cell factories. These platforms have been developed by means of tool and strain development, enzyme engineering, metabolic engineering and modeling, and bioprocess development, fields in which InBio.be has been active for over 15 years.
Over the years, the laboratory has developed a strong track record in metabolic engineering (tool & strain development) of both conventional production hosts by applying state-of-the-art technology, and unconventional prokaryotic and eukaryotic hosts. A next step in the integrated process approach at InBio.be (from DNA to industrial process) is the development and optimization of a convenient fermentation process, combined with the necessary product analysis and purification (down-stream processing) in order to obtain industrially relevant production levels (bioprocess development).
Research at InBio.be resulted in a multitude of publications, PhD-theses, patents and industrial applications, typically developed in collaboration with European industrial partners. For more info about our (inter)national projects, click here.
